A Lamprey Lifeline: Shawn’s Story
When Shawn Tran couldn’t find a doctor in Manchester, he turned to online reviews—and discovered a hidden gem: Lamprey Health Care. What began as a simple search in 2013 became a life-changing relationship that has supported him through fatherhood, financial hardship, and personal growth.
Eight months before his daughter was born, Shawn walked into Lamprey unsure of what to expect. He was young, nervous, and about to become a dad at just 21. But from that very first visit, Lamprey didn’t just treat him—they prepared him. His doctor was honest, supportive, and even funny, helping Shawn navigate the emotional and medical journey ahead. “They talked to me about life, the baby, next steps, and self-care,” Shawn recalls. “It wasn’t just clinical—it was human.”
When his daughter was born in June 2014, Shawn and his wife were still figuring things out. “We were young and dumb,” he laughs. But Lamprey never judged. Instead, they offered compassionate care, financial resources, and guidance—connecting the couple to Medicaid, WIC, and other supports. “Even when we couldn’t pay, the quality of care never changed. We felt important. They didn’t want us to fail.”
One special staff member who made a lasting impact was Rossy Lopez, the Nashua Practice Manager. “She’s kind, patient, and genuinely cares,” Shawn says. “She made us feel welcome and safe.”
After a brief move to North Carolina, Shawn realized just how special Lamprey was. “We lost confidence in the medical system down there—and in ourselves. Coming back to New Hampshire, the first thing we did was return to Lamprey.”
Now, Shawn’s entire family of four—and soon to be five—receives care at Lamprey. His new wife, who speaks only Spanish, feels supported thanks to bilingual staff and interpreters. “We’re happy. We’re comfortable. Lamprey helped me raise my daughter, and honestly, I’m not sure we would’ve made it without them.”
