Community Health Worker

Pronouns: she/her/hers

LHC: Tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grow up? How did you get here?

Maddie: I am from Salem, NH, and have lived there my whole life. I graduated in May of 2022 from Colby-Sawyer College with a bachelor's degree in Public Health and minors in Sociology and Political Studies. I was a competitive swimmer from elementary school through college.

LHC: What do you like most about working at Lamprey Health Care?

Maddie: I love the fact that everyone is so friendly and willing to help in any way that they can! On Wednesdays, I assist with Teen Clinic from 2:30 – 5:00. I have really enjoyed being at that clinic and interacting with the teens that utilize our services.

LHC: Did you always want to work in healthcare? What would you do if you weren't doing this?

Maddie:
I did not always want to work in healthcare. I am one of those people who is interested in many things! Going from being the typical Market Basket employee to a Community Health Worker has been a fun transition! If I wasn’t doing this, I think I would have been a high school history teacher.

LHC: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?

Maddie: Outside work, I volunteer with Salem Area Special Needs which runs our Special Olympics program. I have been volunteering with the team since I was in the 6th grade. I like to swim when I can, as well as throw the lacrosse ball around.

LHC: What advice would you give to others to be healthy?

Maddie: Advice I would give for others to be healthy is to look at small changes. We make healthy choices every day whether it’s taking the stairs or swapping out a bag of chips for fruit. Making small changes and becoming comfortable with those will help you become more successful over time.
