Her work helps ensure accurate and organized medical information, contributing to the seamless delivery of care.
LHC: Tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grow up? How did you get here?
Gabbie: Being in new Hampshire all my life, I grew up and currently live in Hudson, NH. I currently am a senior at Rivier University, working toward a B.S. in Health Science with a minor in Psychology. After my undergrad, I plan on going to graduate school for Occupational Therapy. I used to work as a waitress, but after the restaurant I worked at closed, I wanted to gain more experience and work in healthcare. I soon found an opening in Medical Records, which seemed perfect for me as it lets me gain a deeper knowledge into the intricacies of the healthcare system!
LHC: What do you like most about working at Lamprey Health Care?
Gabbie: I love being able to work somewhere that deeply benefits the daily lives of people! Lamprey provides a variety of different care for a wide range of patients, which is really unique. I find that being able to offer such care in one place is extremely important for patients, especially those who are from underserved populations. That being said, I like being able to learn more about how these different departments work, as well as handling forms and documents for patients in Medical Records which benefits their care!
LHC: Did you always want to work in healthcare? What would you do if you weren't doing this?
Gabbie: I always knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field, just not specifically where. I originally enrolled at Rivier University for Nursing, but I soon switched my major to Health Science as I finally discovered through coursework that my true passion was occupational rehabilitation, specifically aiding people in their daily physical and cognitive functioning. Although working in Medical Records here is only a bridge in my career, it allows me to gain valuable knowledge and experiences I will use the rest of my life! If I wasn’t working in healthcare, I would probably be working somewhere in environmental science with wildlife here in New England.
LHC: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
Gabbie: When I’m not busy with school work, you will always find me curled up with a good book with my cats Ivy and Fig. My favorite book genre is fantasy, I love being able to escape into new worlds and stories!
LHC: What advice would you give to others to be healthy?
Gabbie: Listen to your body whenever you can, and practice mindfulness! It can be so easy to ignore when you feel sick or worn down, but just giving your body an extra break when needed or some self-care can go a long way! I’ve found that taking at least 10 minutes to sit outside and breathe helps reset my mind and body, refreshing me for the day ahead!
