Nashua Area Health Center Services

Nashua Area Health Center came about in response to a need in the greater Nashua community. Over the last 30+ years, under many different names, we have helped those in need with health care for pregnancy, family planning, and other health and disease conditions. Since September 2000, Nashua Area Health Center has been part of the Lamprey Health Care family.

Primary Care for the Whole Family
Nashua Area Health Center takes the family practice approach to medical care and focuses on prevention, health education and the health and wellbeing of the family as a whole. Our goal is to keep you and your family healthy.

Adult Care
Nashua Area Health Center provides primary health care to men and women, moms and dads, grandparents and great grandparents. We have a physician that is board certified in internal medicine to care for you through all stages of your life.

We are here to provide you with preventive care, illness care and chronic disease management. Having a provider that knows you and with whom you feel comfortable helps to improve your health and ensure your quality of care.

Gynecological Care
Female patients can receive their gynecological care at Nashua Area Health Center by our physicians, nurse practitioners and certified midwives. Patients can feel comfortable in receiving high-quality care from a provider that they know well and trust.

Family Planning & the Teen-to-Teen Clinic
Nashua Area Health Center provides family planning services to patients as needed. We can provide you with a number of birth control options, including condoms and oral contraceptive pills.

Teens can receive care at our Teen-to-Teen Clinic for reproductive health care at the Nashua Center. Teens can get reproductive health exams, birth control, condoms, STD testing and counseling, and reproductive health information.

Prenatal Care & Childbirth
You can trust us to provide the highest quality prenatal care for the good health of you and your baby. We will care for you and your baby throughout your pregnancy, your delivery, and following your baby’s birth.

We will help you through any medical issues, assist with any financial concerns, provide you with nutritional counseling and parenting education, and offer you the emotional or social support you may need during your pregnancy. We can also provide you with transportation to and from medical appointments if needed.

Our prenatal provider team consists of certified nurse midwives and second year obstetric resident physicians from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Our midwives work as partners with Dartmouth Hitchcock's OB/Gyn residents. The physicians of Dartmouth Hitchcock and Merrimack Valley act as consultants and provide on-call support. We also have a nutritionist, diabetes educator and community health worker on our team to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Our team of providers will deliver your baby at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center Birth Place. Each birthing room at the Medical Center's Birth Place offers a private, homelike environment where you can experience the wonders of childbirth.

Healthy Steps
Our Healthy Steps program is a substance abuse service for women who are pregnant, a parent, or of childbearing age. If you need help, the counselor can do an assessment, referral, individual counseling, drug and alcohol education and case management.

The program also specializes in treating pregnant women who are addicted to opiates, using methadone treatment during the pregnancy and detoxification services after the baby is born.

Diabetes Care Management
Our goal is to help our patients best control their diabetes. Why? In the short run, you will feel better, stay healthy, have more energy and prevent the symptoms of high blood sugar. In the long run, you will lower your chances of having diabetes problems such as eye disease, kidney disease and nerve damage. You will enjoy a better quality of life.

We aspire to reduce the risks of diabetes through good control of the disease. Our diabetes educators and clinical team follow a "best practice" case management program to ensure the most thorough care of our diabetic patients. We ask that you follow their instructions to control your blood sugar level to help you feel better.

Chronic Disease Management
Whether it's asthma, diabetes or Hepatitis C, our clinical team works hard to best manage your condition for your improved health. Our doctors work as a team with our nurses and community health worker to ensure that you are getting excellent care management.

Nutrition Education
We have a registered dietician on staff to provide nutritional assessments and guidance. The dietician focuses on working with every one of our diabetic and prenatal patients, but also is available to any of our patients in need of general advice in healthy eating.

Prescription Assistance
If you are uninsured and need a prescription for an illness, we will try to assist with your medication needs whenever possible by giving you samples that have been given to us from pharmaceutical companies. Our supplies are usually limited, but we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

If you have ongoing medication needs for a chronic condition, you may be eligible for free prescriptions through our Pharmacy Assistance Program. If you are financially eligible, our staff will work to enroll you in programs where drug manufacturers provide you with free prescriptions. It takes four to six weeks to be enrolled and renewal applications are required every three months.

Referrals to Specialists
To ensure that your health care costs will be covered, you should review and follow your insurance plan rules regarding referrals. These plans generally require that referrals be made by your primary care provider. Whenever you or a member of your family needs medical attention, you should contact the primary care provider first. Your provider will need to give you a referral to see a specialist.

Southern New Hampshire Medical Center
Nashua Area Health Center enjoys a close affiliation with Southern New Hampshire Medical Center (www.snhmc.org). Our physicians and nurse midwives have admitting privileges at the medical center. If you need hospital care, you can trust Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for the best possible care.
